KARACHI: A fire broke out at a 14-storey building in Karachi’s Boat Basin area in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to SHO Boat Basin, flames erupted due to a short-circuit in the building, engulfing popular restaurants on the ground floor. However, no loss of life was reported.

Rescue teams including security officials rushed to the site to douse the fire.

Moreover, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Khurram Sher Zaman accused the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) fire department for reaching 45 minutes late.

The fire brigade staff, he added, had requested him to raise the issue of eight-month pending fire risk allowance in the Sindh Assembly.

Accusing Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar of negligence, Zaman also said the fire department lacked uniforms and vehicles were not maintained.

Earlier this week, at least one person died when fire engulfed a cosmetic factory at Shahrah-e-Faisal due to an explosion.
