PESHAWAR: Having lost their fathers or brothers, young family members of martyred policemen had a smile on their face on Thursday as they played and were provided with gifts.

An event was organised by the City Division Police at the Cha Cha Younas Park for the families and children of slain policemen. The event was organised ahead of August 4, observed as Shuhada Day in the province. While it was held for families of cops living in the city, families of several other police officers also attended the event.

As part of the event, different games were organised for children with a play land, dodge ‘em cars, and motion rides set up for the children to enjoy. Later prizes such as motorbikes, bicycles and cash rewards were distributed among the children through a lucky draw.

SSP Operation Sajjad Khan, who attended the event with his family, said that martyred policemen had laid down their lives to protect the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and their sacrifice would be remembered not only by the police force and the government but also by the residents of the province.

He added that every effort was being made for the welfare of the families of the slain police officials and that his door was always open for them.

August 4 has been declared as the Shuhada Day by K-P police. On that day in 2010 the then Commandant FC Sifwar Ghyoor was killed in a suicide attack in FC Chowk, Saddar. He was the highest high ranking police official killed in a terrorist attack in the province.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Faqirabad DSP Tahir Dawar said that as many as 30 families of slain cops participated in the event along with their children.

“We did a lucky draw in the end but every kid was provided with gifts and cash rewards,” he added.
